Rail Cargo Group trains will transport containers between Gdańsk and the Paskov terminal

The Austrian carrier ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) started to perform intermodal transport between Paskov and Gdańsk with its own fleet. According to RCG, this is the only direct connection leading from the regions of Moravia and northern Slovakia to one of the most important European ports, Gdańsk.

— By switching to its own traction, RCG takes control of the entire transport process, from providing the train to arrival at the destination port and vice versa. Such a comprehensive logistics solution ensures optimization of route planning and improvement of efficiency along its entire length. TransFER is operated in two weekly rounds, with a transit time of just one day. The ideal parameters of the corridor ensure throughput, especially for heavy containers. Other advantages of the TransFER connection are: direct shipping connections with the Far East and Scandinavia - with transit times comparable to transit times through Hamburg - said the press release.

The train journey time between Gdańsk and Paskov is 18 hours. Containers of 20, 40 and 45 feet are transported. Transport by rail on this route saves approximately 50% of CO2 emissions per container compared to road transport. The Paskov terminal is one of the most important transshipment centers in Central Europe, from which RCG distributes sea goods (FCL - Full Container Loads) to their destinations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
